Our love affair with usability

Usability has help shape the way we interact with the Internet today. It has given guidelines for designers and developers for creating better user experiences. Without efforts in user testing we still would be creating the monsters that once plagued the online community.
Why usability is important
Usability is the answer for improving sales, readership and creating pleasant environments for users. People don’t tend to stick around if they come across a website that is difficult to use. Learning and enforcing usability standards is key to creating successful websites, applications and everything in-between.
User testing has provided insight into the importance of usability. Recently, research in user interaction has proved people can’t find information they seek on websites 50% of the time. This leads to time wasted, less productivity, increased confusion, loss in recurring visitors and less sales.
Bad results for both user and designer.
People have low tolerance for confusing design and slow loading websites.
We all hate waiting. People don’t wish to spend time learning how to use an individual website. And with there being no cookie cutter layout for every website on the Internet you can’t expect to read a manual that works for all. People need to have the ability to gasp the functions of an entire website in only a few moments.
