A Fresh New Beginning
The best part of this redesign is a fresh excitement. It is keeping my mind racing with new ideas.
You may notice, no images make up the design. When the site released, I never planned to focus on the look of the layout more than the content within that layout.
The old layout contained much disorder with wasted space by laying out articles in a single column, an ugly memory hog of a comment section, multiple banner placements, small content area, and more I disliked that ultimately made me want a redesign.
Now when designing the new layout I decided that content was the spotlight of every page.
I’m a simple person and wanted a simple design to reflect that. Layout images remove focus on what is truly important in an informational-based website, the text.
I removed all unnecessary elements.
In the old layout as the website became increasingly popular, I released new features to help site usability by adding an easier to understand comment section and tools for submitting to social bookmarking sites. Those new tools came with improvements, but also disappointments that outweighed my desire to support them any longer.
I have removed most of the social bookmarking tools and have opted out for DISQUS in running my comment section. I have returned to the default comment system provided by Wordpress as well as placed buttons on every articles comment section to hide them by default, in order keep focus on the content.
By removing the clutter, I can now use the same amount of bandwidth for four people to load a page that I used with just one person before making the changes.
Over the next few weeks, I will be updating old articles, releasing new articles, and making finally adjustments to the new design.
As I mentioned in my last article, I will soon be adding new authors to the mix.
