How to Get Visitors to Come to Your Website

According to web server survey by Netcraft received responses from over 230 million sites in April 2009. With there being so many sites, content, and overall creation of websites on the internet it becomes even more important for your website to succeed that you take steps to ensure your site is properly indexed and that you have desired content.

Getting Your Site Indexed

This is a very important process in getting the word out about your website. Getting your site indexed means that search engines like Google, Yahoo, and MSN will start showing your site in related search results.

Remember it’s important to get your site indexed, and ultimately will be the starting foundation to getting some traffic to your site.

Inbound Links Are Important

Once you have your site indexed you still may not be receiving any visitors, and one of the reasons why even indexing your site didn’t work is because no one is linking to your site. Search engines like Google base a huge part of being in the top search results on how many inbound links you have from other respectable sites. If everyone on the web is talking about how awesome your website is, then Google will increase where your site is placed when people search keywords that involve your site.

This is where networking with other webmasters, and joining community forums can be a good thing to boost your site visitors.

Social Bookmarking is Social!

Social Bookmarking can be a great way to start about getting the word out about your site. It provides a platform where you post your links on sites with millions of active users and in some cases if you’re lucky can get you site off the ground rather quickly if you were featured on the front page.

I personal make sure that all my content is submit to a few bookmarking sites to attempt to get the word out quickly about a new article or a site update. Some of the main bookmarking sites that I use are digg.com and delicious.com; these two sites are some of the most popular bookmarking networks available now.

So I would suggest to you if you’re looking for an easy way to get your site posted somewhere then sign up for some of these sites.

Submitting to Article and Link Directories

Submitting content to a directory is a tool that webmasters have been using for years; even Google has suggested submitting to directories can help your overall search result placement and pagerank. When submitting to most directories you will need to supply an original article, which will be display on the directories site – in turn you can credit the article with a link to your website.

Keep in mind to not abuse submitting to a directory this could in fact cause the directory to never choose to accept your content or links.

Unique and Desired Content

This one is pretty much a given.

When you have unique and desired content it will help you in the long run when it comes to getting a place on top of it all. For example if you are posting a blog or article about something you were reading on CNN or any other news site, I doubt that you would get high in the search results due to not only big news networks talking about it but millions of other bloggers.

Even I have found it difficult trying to compete with all the sites that offer articles about similar topics that I write about, so I would suggest that you put some thought into what you plan on the major type of content that you will be offering to your visitors.
